Footsteps is a weekly club held at Bermondsey Gospel Hall for children aged 4 up. Every week during term time (except half term) we all come together for singing, a quiz, learning a memory verse and lessons from the Bible.
We start at 6:15pm by singing a few Bible-based choruses, then we teach a memory verse from a passage of the Bible. We then usually have a fun team quiz based on previous stories in which the children have the opportunity to win points which can in turn be traded in once a term for prizes. Once a term we also hold a pizza and games night.
The second half of Footsteps is set aside for learning a story from the Bible. We split into various classes based on age and one of the adults from the church will teach a series of Bible stories over a few weeks. Recent examples of lessons include the story of creation, the lives of the Judges from the Old Testament, people that Jesus met and miracles that he did.
We believe that the stories found in both the Old and New Testament teach about the way that God has dealt with mankind
throughout the history of the world, and especially how that Jesus Christ came into the world as the Saviour and about the need for personal trust in Him. We all know that the things we learn in our childhood very often stay with us for life, and because the message of Jesus Christ is so important, we feel it is important to explain to the children at Footsteps some of the basics of Christianity.
We currently have around 20 children who come to Footsteps, most live in or around Bermondsey while others come from slightly further afield. We are able to organize lifts to and from the Gospel Hall if you are unable to make it yourself.
As well as the weekly club, Footsteps also holds an annual Easter and Christmas service at the church in which
the children show their parents, families and friends some of the songs they have been learning and the verses they have memorized. From time to time we also hold trips and outings which all the children are welcome to come on.
If you would like your children or friends to come to Footsteps, or if you would like any more information about what we do then please get in contact through the website.
